If you're gonna "Walk the Walk"...you gotta "Talk the Talk" !

mahlstick - (mahl'stick)
mahlstick or maulstick

Also spelled maulstick.
Also called a bridge.
A long wooden stick used by painters as
a tool to support and steady the hand
that holds the brush,
conserving the arm's strength,
and protecting the painting's surface.
Traditionally the end of the mahlstick that is placed
on or near the work is wrapped in leather.
A simple "bridge" to support your hand
in hard to reach areas while "muraling"
or doing detail work such as veining in marble,
could be a wooden kabob skewer stuck into an art eraser.
Soft, and even non-skid!
A tennis ball on the end of a dowel works also!

"Gyotaku"
gyotaku...fish rubbing

Gyotaku pronounced ghio-ta-koo
- fish rubbing - gyo = fish, taku = rubbing
Fish rubbing, or printing, originated
in Japan or China in the early 1800's.
In Japan, gyotaku is practiced by sportsmen
to preserve the records of their catches.
(A fish print never lies, but fishermen do!)
You can also use this technique for making
prints of shells, rocks, flowers, and
other objects of nature.
(Plants have been printed in Europe since the 1400's.)
Next time you talk to a new client about
stenciling leaves, or stamping a dragonfly...
Tell them THIS FISH STORY.
They'll be SO impressed and KNOW you are SO informed,
SO interesting and SO worldly!

Faux Bois
Faux Bois...pronounced Foe Bwa
is the time honored French art of recreating wood grains using alternative media.
In our case, wood graining on walls or other surfaces with paint and glazes.
The Faux Bois technique can be done on any surface, as long as the it's smooth,
primed and base coated.
The Tree of Life, the icon of Disney's Animal Kingdom Park,
is made of concrete disguised as wood and is also considered Faux Bois.
The "tree" stands 14 stories high and is 50 feet in diameter at its base.
There are more than 325 animal forms shaped into the "tree".
